Flow
Through Shared Resources:
Create
Flow through Processes Shared by Multiple Value Streams
Single
Piece Flow is the most efficient way
to produce a part, but sometimes it’s just not
possible. Imagine an organization with many product
families, each requiring a heat-treat process. To
create true flow, they would need one heat-treat process
for every value stream; that can get very expensive!
Flow
Through Shared Resources is a one-day
intermediate level workshop that teaches participants
how to create flow through processes that are used by
more than one value stream. Participants will learn
to determine when to dedicate processes, and when they
must be shared. Participants will also learn to
calculate the rate of customer demand at the shared resource
for the various products and how to schedule the products,
even if batching is required.
Like
most Lean Solutions workshops, Flow
Through Shared Resources combines classroom
theory with practical exercises and case study simulations
to reinforce the training. However, unlike most of
our Lean Solutions, the theories presented during the workshop
will not be directly applied to one of your value streams
during the course.
- Learn when to dedicate processes and when
they must be shared
- Calculate takt time for several product families
- Set an interval for the shared resource
- Create flow through a shared resource
- Address issues surrounding product requiring
rework
- Learn how to accommodate batch processes
- Schedule the shared resource for optimal flow
