Leading the Lean Transformation

Leading the Lean Transformation is a one-day workshop for managers and team leaders who will be involved in the organization's Lean journey. This workshop emphasizes the role of leaders as change enablers. Workshop participants should fulfill a supervisory role and should be familiar with Lean Principles.

This workshop will show participants how to lead the improvement within their organization by focusing on the entire value stream instead of individual processes. Participants also learn which activities add value and which are waste.

The evolution of the role of managers is reviewed in depth as well as the necessary culture change that typically accompanies a successful Lean journey. Leaders must become change enablers, removing obstacles that prevent the elimination of waste.

Possible changes to management structure are reviewed such as becoming a product-focused versus a process-focused organization. Recommendations on areas where Lean should be started and the type of people that should be committed to the first project are all a part of this workshop. Roles such as Lean Champions, Lean Facilitators and Value Stream Leaders will be presented as possible methods for implementing Lean within your organization. As a unique organization, a carbon-copy solution that works for one company might not be ideal for you. Thus, the emphasis of this workshop is to review a variety of solutions so that your team can select the one that works best in your specific environment.

Many companies realize that their organizational structure does not adequately support the implementation of Lean. This workshop is designed to make those problems visible before they arise - to create an environment where Lean improvements are nurtured rather than hindered.

Unlike most Lean Solutions workshops, Leading the Lean Transformation is primarily classroom based. Topics are reinforced using case study simulations, however, further study and consideration by the management team is required before practical application can occur.

Typical Results

Upon completing the Leading the Lean Transformation workshop, leaders will better understand their role throughout your company's Lean journey. They will facilitate the implementation, providing guidance to their teams and removing those obstacles that impede Lean implementation.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is ideal for managers and leaders who will be involved in the initial Lean Value Stream improvement projects. Managers will learn what Lean can do for the organization and how their role must evolve to enable success.

Leading the Lean Transformation will teach your team techniques to ensure that Lean activities are adequately supported and to ensure that projects are completed on time and the results achieved. Following this workshop, most organizations use the single-day Lean Principles workshop to educate the rest of the key members of the team on the principles of Lean.

Prerequisites

This workshop is tailored to those in supervisory and management positions. Participants should have completed the Lean Principles workshop, or its equivalent. If your team has no prior Lean knowledge, consider the 3-day Launching the Lean Initiative workshop, which combines Lean Principles, Leading the Lean Transformation and Lean Performance Measures. Participants may also want to begin the learning process by reading articles and books about Lean.

What you Receive

As with all our workshops, each participant receives their own workshop binder so they can keep their own notes for reference once the workshop is over. Participants also receive a Certificate of Completion to show that they have completed a Lean Solutions workshop.

The materials from the workshop may be redistributed within the company. Many organizations choose to hold short training sessions using these materials so that all employees can learn the principles of Lean. Additional workbooks are also available (call for pricing).

You also receive a 100% guarantee! If you are not satisfied either with the material covered or the teaching style of the workshop facilitator, there will be no charge! If we fail to meet your expectations, the only thing you will be asked to pay for will be the expenses incurred.

Workshop Follow-up

Although Lean Solutions workshops are designed to give the knowledge to you and your team, follow-up days are recommended to review progress made following each workshop. Typical organizations require one to two follow-up days about 2-4 weeks following the workshop. These follow-up days also help to ensure that the principles learned during the workshop are not forgotten or neglected after the workshop is over. If you are interested in a greater involvement by one of our expert facilitators, check out our On-Site Lean Implementation solution.

Pricing & Contact Information

The base cost for this one-day workshop is $3,500, which covers the first 15 participants. Classes larger than 15 participants will be taught by two facilitators and cost $6,000. In order to keep the class size manageable and to facilitate the learning process, Lean Solutions restricts the maximum class size to 30 participants. Follow-up days cost $1,500-$2,000 per day, depending upon the experience of the facilitator. There is a 10% discount available for long-term engagements. Expenses are in addition to the costs outlined above and include cost of travel and accommodation (if required) as well as meals and workbooks ($20 per participant).

Lean Solutions will tailor workshops to meet each company's requirements. Call or e-mail for more information or to schedule a workshop.
